Ex N.I. Brooks Collection.

Stoker Petty Officer Joseph Charles Cole entered the Royal Navy in 1893 and in 1900 he joined H.M.Y. Victoria & Albert, serving aboard that ship until 1914. He saw active service in the Great War including time aboard the Battleship H.M.S. Agincourt. Towards the end of the War he was awarded the M.S.M. (London Gazette 21.3.1919 refers) for his service on Minesweepers. Cole was awarded the R.V.M. in 1922 on the occasion of King George V's visit to Cowes.
