M.M. London Gazette 19.11.1917. Recommendation states 'On the night of 1 November 1917, Gunner Edward King, in company with Bombardier Mosely and Gunner Minchin, when passing near Glencorse Wood, heard a cry for help. The ground was excessively boggy and the enemy were shelling the spot heavily at the time, and the darkness of the night was also instrumental in prolonging their search. Gunner King's perserverance, and that of his comrades, resulted in their finding a wounded Infantryman to whom they rendered first aid and then carried to a Dressing Station. This man is a telephonist and has repeatedly shown the same valour and disregard for danger in carrying out his work under heavy fire. His conduct is worthy of special recognition'.

Gunner Edward King, M.M., who was from Ulladulla, N.S.W., enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in January 1915, aged 21 years. Embarked for the Middle East in June 1915, he went on to serve in the Gallipoli operations with the 1st Battalion, A.I.F. and arrived back in Egypt in late 1916. Next posted to the Western Front with the Australian Field Artillery, he served there from June 1916 until his death through wounds on 4.10.1918.
