Four letters signed ('Napoleon' and, in one, 'Napole') to Prince Eugène, Verona, 16 June 1805, Mantua, 19 June 1805, Genoa, 3 July 1805, Saint-Cloud, 10 June 1806, the first correcting the announcement of the appointment of the Cardinal of Brescia and saying that it was Cardinal Archetti of whom he spoke, referring to the expenses of household and coronation [in Italy] for which 700,000 livres have been made available, asking Eugène to bring to him at Piacenza, details of the expenditure and the jewels from Paris, ending 'Je vois que vous tenez le Conseil d'état à quatre heures du matin; c'est un peu de bonne heure', 2 pages, 4to (one word corrected in autograph); the second regarding the budget of the State and ordering the arrest of the conspirator [Jean-Jacques] La Carrière who is 'un très mauvais sujet, et un coquin de la première espèce.', 2 pages, 4to; the third about various payments and military matters including that it would be ridiculous for the Dragoons to take the name of Joséphine, 'il est plus convenable qu'ils portent le nom de dragons de la Reine, je vous en envoie le décret. Il y aurait du ridicule à faire porter à des corps militaires des noms de femme', and returning his proposal for a decree on uniform, which may be white but must keep the national colours on the collars and revers, 1¼ pages, 4to; the fourth approving of the idea of establishing a camp for 12 battalions at Montechiaro, the barracks of brick or stone and the cost to be born by the Kingdom of Italy, ½ page, 4to, half-mourning paper.
