Clumber Spaniels were popularised by Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, and continued to be used in the kennels of his son King George V, where they were worked for covert shooting in packs of four or six alongside as many as eighty beaters in the field. The breed was first introduced at Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire, a seat of the Dukes of Newcastle.
