Although it does not appear to fit into any known school, the plaque is closest in style to Flemish work of the first half of the 15th Century. However, the crowded appearance of the scenes on the plaque and the placing of the Annunciation either side of the Crucifixion is unusual. The old repairs to the enamel and the fact that the frame and plaque have clearly not been designed as an entity suggests that the plaque probably dates from an earlier date in the 19th Century than the frame.
