The present work is a study for an oil painting entitled, A Sale at Tattersall's (1911; Southampton Art Gallery; see R.A. Bevan, Robert Bevan 1865-1925 A Memoir by his Son, London, 1965, p. 17, pl. 29). The oil was purchased by Mrs MacConnell, the mother of Lt Col J.K. MacConnell, at Bevan's one-man show at the Carfax Gallery in 1913; it was purchased by Southampton Art Gallery in 1974.

The present work is a study for an oil painting entitled, A Sale at Tattersall's (1911; Southampton Art Gallery; see R.A. Bevan, Robert Bevan 1865-1925 A Memoir by his Son, London, 1965, p. 17, pl. 29). The oil was purchased by Mrs McConnell, mother of Lt Col J.K. McConnell, at Bevan's one-man show at the Carfax Gallery in 1913.
