Lot Essay

The dynamics of plant growth are absorbed into the forms of triangles and circles and the geometry of horizontals and verticals. As the artist explained (J.P. Hodin, Alan Reynolds, London, 1962, p. 7): 'Painting a picture involves, apart from other things, the "Relativity of All - to the Rectangle." ... The subject or motif must be transformed and become an organic whole'.
