The year after the present watercolour was executed, Munnings depicted two children in a similar rowing boat in an oil entitled, Stranded (dated 1898 but painted 1897; City of Bristol Museum and Art Gallery; see S. Booth, Sir Alfred Munnings 1878-1959, London, 1978, pp. 34-5, illustrated). Stranded was one of the artist's first two pictures to be hung at the Royal Academy in 1899.
