A Chinese Export black and gilt-lacquer tea caddy and hinged cover
19th Century
the rectangular box with canted corners decorated to the top with a panel of ladies, boys and attendants in a fenced garden setting, surrounded by mythical beasts and bats amongst stylised foliage, within a continuous band of leaves and scrolling foliage cartouches within dot motif borders, the sides decorated with further figural panels, the interior with two pewter tea canisters, liners and covers, incised with flowering branches and scrolling motifs, standing on stylised bat feet supports, areas of figural dress attire highlighted in red paint -- 11in. (27.9cm.) wide, (wear and rubbing, minor damages).
