Half-titles, titles in red and black with engraved vignettes, engraved general title with letterpress lettering. 42 engraved portraits, plates, views and maps, 5 folding, 34 double-page, 59 engraved illustrations, one engraved headpiece and one initial. (The first map slightly shaved at upper margin, occasional small tears at joints, some browning.) Contemporary English calf gilt (worn). Provenance: Thomas Gascoigne (of Parlington, York, bookplate); Carrington family (armorial bookplate). New edition. Complete according to the plate list at the end of vol.II, but copies vary, and some have been known to contain 43 and 45 plates as well. The first edition was published in German, in 1647.
