Details
A CRUCIFORM STIRRUP
A late 17th century hand wrought iron stirrup, adorned with elaborate chasing on both sides. In 1778, the Bishop of Guatemala felt these stirrups, due to the fact that they were forged in the shape of the bishop's miter (hat), were sacrilegious and ruled to destroy all exsisting cruciform stirrups.
Length: 18½in. (47cm.)
