Maker's mark of Poussielgue-Rusant, Paris 1847-1891
Circular, on circular platform foot with acanthus border, the waisted column deeply cast with a frieze of Roman warriors, horses and a chariot, a battle scene before a castle above, the tazza with acanthus and gadrooned border, the centre with a Roman emperor in battle dress, his helmet and quiver at his feet, before a scene of battle within a city wall, with Ionic columns and statuary in the distance, the skies filled with smoke, the rocks at the foot of the emperor inscribed Pietro Colotti MDLXXXV
