Alice married the Grand Duke Louis of Hesse und bei Rhein (1837-1892). They had two children, Victoria (1863-1950) and Alix (1872-1918). The latter married Nicholas II, Czar of all the Russians and died in the 1918 Bolshevik Revolution. Princess Victoria married Louis of Battenberg, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven (1854-1921). In 1917 Louis renounced the Battenberg name and took the surname Mountbatten. They had two sons and a daughter. The eldest son George of Battenberg, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven (1892-1938) married Nadejda, Countess of Torby, morganatic daughter of the Grand Duke Michel Mikhailovitch of Russia. David, 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven (1919-1970) married Janet Bryce (b.1937) and their son inherited as George, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven
