Lot Essay

This form of hollow-centred commode relates to one executed around 1780 by the Berkeley Square cabinet-maker John Linnell (d.1796) and now in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (see H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, William and John LinnelL, London, 1980, vol. II, p. 59, fig. 119).
