A SET OF EIGHTEEN SPANISH BLACK AND GILT-JAPANNED DINING-CHAIRS
19th Century, of different dates
Comprising two open armchairs and sixteen side chairs, each decorated overall with scrolling foliage, trelliswork panels and pastoral scenes, the pierced shaped toprail centred by a shell flanked on each side by scrolls, rockwork and an anthropomorphic head, above a cane-filled back with vase-shaped splat, above a caned seat with a loose padded seat covered in cream foliate damask, the armchairs with downswept scrolled arms on baluster supports, the waved seatrails centred by a patera, on cabriole legs joined by turned and shaped stretchers, on claw-and-ball feet, variations (18)
