Lot Essay

The table legs, with reed-enriched spheres in the 'antique' or Egyptian manner, correspond to an 1803 'pillar or column' pattern popularised by Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary, London, 1803; and feature on the fine mahogany bedroom furniture illustrated in the contemporary Estimate Sketch Books of Gillows of London and Lancaster (Westminster City Archives MSS).
