A PARTHIAN GOLD AND GARNET PENDANT
Circa 2nd Century B.C.-2nd Century A.D.
In the form of a vase with an ovoid hollow body and a conical neck, with three voluted wire "handles" joined to the shoulders and the rim, each with a fringe of granulation, a rectangular box bezel above set with a garnet, with two suspension loops on the reverse, the ovoid body formed from two halves joined to a filigree strap of twisted and plain wires and granulation, the upper section with two rows of semicircular cut-outs, the lower section with a single row, each cut-out rimmed with granulation, the spaces in between also filled with patterns of granulation, the lower section with eight loops from which are suspended pomegranate-shaped pendants, a single loop at the base perhaps originally with a similar pendant
