A PAIR OF PARTHIAN GOLD EARRINGS
Circa 2nd-3rd Century A.D.
Each with a hinged strap hoop with granules below the hinge and at the join to the suspension loop below, the loops supporting elaborate pendants in the form of large hollow spheres topped with an hour-glass- shaped element with three S-scroll straps, with stacks of granulation on the scrolls, and bands of granulation at the waist and at the join to the sphere, the spheres formed of two hemispheres joined to a strap, each hemisphere with clusters of granulation and six semicircular perforations fringed with plain wire and granulation, the strap with twisted wire, plain wire and granulation, the lower hemisphere with six small rings each supporting a large loop with a bell-shaped pendant, a small loop at the base of the sphere perhaps originally also supporting a pendant
