A PAIR OF GREEK GOLD AND GARNET EARRINGS
Hellenistic Period, Circa 4th-3rd Century B.C.
Each with a garnet cameo bust of an African, the neck set in a gold collar, the hair rendered by gold sheet adorned with filigree ringlets, the earwire formed from a rounded strap and a pair of beaded wires wrapped spirally around a plain wire, the ensemble tapering to a single wire which hooks into a loop at the base of the collar, a collar-set cabochon garnet on the hoop above the head
