Perhaps depicting Daidalos, the bearded figure moving to the right in the knielauf position, with broad up-turned wings tied to his waist, wearing winged boots, his right hand at his side, his left arm raised parallel to the left wing
16 in. (3.7 cm) wide

Lot Essay

Although our figure is not holding the characteristic carpenter's utensils with which Daidalos is often depicted, the form and style of this figure are strikingly similar to those discussed by Simon in "Early Images of Daidalos in Flight," pp. 407-413 in Carter and Morris, eds., The Ages of Homer.
