A ROMAN MARBLE "ARCHAISTIC" HEAD OF A GOD
Circa 1st Century B.C.
Likely Apollo, depicted with a soft arching brow, the eyes with thick upper lids and deep inner canthi, the straight nose sharply modelled along the bridge, with pursed fleshy lips, a trough filtrum, and rounded chin, the large ears low on the head, the hair rendered as three rows of snail curls framing the head, topped with a triangular diadem, the hair along the top of the head a series of incised wavy locks, with the plaits falling along the neck
