Aldrovandi was inspired by Guillaume Rondelet, whom he met in Rome, where Aldrovandi defended himself against charges of heresy. "He carried out studies in several fields of natural history: botany, teratology, embryology, ichthyology, and ornithology." (DSB). Unfortunately he died before many of his works were published. (2)
