Clemens' youngest daughter, Jean, died in 1909 from the epilepsy she contracted at a young age. After her death, her heartbroken father wrote to Clara Clemens: "...you can't imagine...how fine and good, and sweet and noble -- and joyful, thank Heaven! -- and how intellectually brilliant. I had never been acquainted with Jean before." She was talented and had a deeply sympathetic personality. Her love of animals, for example, was immense. This is a remarkable portrait of the Clemens family at home and abroad.
