Engraved title and frontispiece to each volume, dedication, 20 plates, engraved head- and tailpieces throughout including 9 full-page vignettes, by Baquoy, Mesnil, Patas and others after Gravelot. Contemporary red morocco gilt, covers with triple fillet borders, spines gilt in six compartments with five raised bands, foliate design in four compartments, lettering in two, board edges with double gilt fillet, turn-ins gilt, g.e., slipcases (head and foot of spines skillfully repaired, seven small repaired patches to front cover of Vol. 2, spines darkened). Provenance: The Empress Marie-Louise (1791-1847), afterwards Duchess of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla (stamp of her crowned cipher on title pages). FINE COPY OF THE RARE QUARTO EDITION.
