Lot Essay

This terracotta may have been a modello for another version probably in marble. Decorative groups of this type were extremely popular within the circle of Delvaux as well as contemporary French sculptors. A comparable terracotta example, Summer and Autumn, depicts a child with very similar proportions and appears to be a modello for a marble version signed by Delvaux in 1760 (see Jacobs, loc. cit).
