Lot Essay

Bertos is best known for his pyramidal, multi-figure bronze or marble groups, with - often obscure - allegorical subjects (Planiscig and Hildburgh, locs. cit.). Similar examples of the pyramid-like compositions are the marble Allegoria dell'inverno and bronze Allegoria della vendemmia, both in the Palazzo Reale, Turin (Viancini, op.cit., figs. 9 and 15).
