JOHNSON, Charles, pseud. A General History of the Lives and Adventures of the most famous Highwaymen, Murderers, Street-robbers...London: for J. Janeway, 1734. 2o (363 x 235 mm.) Frontispiece, 24 engraved plates, title in red and black, (some very light finger-soiling), a well-margined copy. Contemporary gilt-ruled speckled calf, spine in floral gilt, edges gilt (front hinge repaired, rear cover cleanly detached, but present), handsome cloth slipcase. FIRST EDITION. Combining Defoe's similarly titled work (see lots 53-55 and 61-62 with additional material), this pseudonymously-authored text was much reprinted, copied and (of course) pirated with textual and plate variants.
