[LOGBOOK]. Manuscript log of the Brig Eliza, CAPTURED BY PIRATES en route from Boston to Denmark and the author's account of his repatriation aboard the Constantia. 5 October 1809 - 14 April 1811, and several postscripts. Small 4o, 86 pages penned in ink, recto and verso. 193 x 154 mm. (some creasing at edges, toning). The Brig Eliza was captured by French privateer Captain Nicket of the Juno and the author was taken on board, witness to further plundering and, on arriving in France, briefly imprisoned. "O America? Will you see [your liberties] thus trampled on; will you see your Shiping taken, & your Inhabitants draged to prison, by a set of Infernal Pirates?...If, I say, Americans, look with Content and submit to this treatment, then farewell to all Greatness; America once the Wonder of the World, will be the Scorn & Sneer of every Nation. Frenchman come? Spit your venom upon America." An often ruminative account by an unlucky sailor.
