A Höchst tortoise tureen and cover
Circa 1750
Naturally modelled and painted in grand feu manganese and yellow, with a moulded yellow band about its neck, manganese scales to its neck and shoulders, short manganese tail and clawed feet, the cover formed as its shell with manganese bands dividing moulded raised yellow panels with managanese dot ornament (tail a replacement, chipping and grazing to claws, small rim chip and flaking to rim, cracks from rim and to interior)
