Lot Essay

A drawing by the same hand of similar subject and size is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, M.L. Myers, Architectural and Ornament Drawings, New York, 1975, no. 2, illustrated. Barberi trained as a silversmith with Luigi Valadier, father of Giuseppe, and executed many architectural projects. Several sheets by Barberi are at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, New York.
