Lot Essay

Géraud-Christophe-Michel Duroc, (1772-1813) French General and duc de Frioul, was born into a military family. After the 1797 Egyptian campaign he was made governor of the Palais des Tuileries in 1800. He was then created duc de Frioul (November 1808) and a Senator (April 1813) shortly after fighting in the Russian campaign.

He was at Napoleon's side in the battles of Lutzen and Wurtzen (20th and 21st May 1813) and a day later he received a fatal wound at Mackersdorff. He was burried at the Palais des Invalides.
