A Meissen ormolu-mounted Commedia dell'arte figure of Harlequin from the Duke of Weissenfels series
Circa 1744, blue crossed swords mark at back, the mount 19th Century
Modelled by J.J. Kändler and P. Reinicke in pale yellow conical hat, black cape, turquoise, pale-yellow and pink jacket, the pink panels with playing cards, white breeches and yellow shoes, in contra posto pose, his right arm gesturing towards his face, his left holding a slap-stick, on a circular mound base applied with coloured flowers, the pierced mount cast with scrolls and flowers (right little finger lacking, restoration to index finger, piece broken from brim at back of hat, slight chipping to flowers and foliage, glaze blemish to left knee)
