An unusual 18-inch (47.7cm.) diameter terrestrial library globe, made up of two sets of twenty-four chromolithographed gores and two polar calottes laid onto the corresponding fourteen aluminium sections that make up the globe shaped as twelve gores and two calottes, the equatorial graduated in degrees and hours, the Greenwich Meridian ungraduated, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans with an analemma and showing Length of a degree of Longitude along each Latitude circle, Circumference of each Latitude circle and Distance through the earth (Diameter of each Latitude circle) and with a note and diagram reading The curvature of the earth's surface per mile is about 2 inches, also with isothermal lines for January and July with temperatures in Fahrenheit, warm and cold ocean currents, oceanic flora and steamship routes with ports of arrival and departure and distance in nautical miles, the box outlining these labelled COPYRIGHT, G.W. BACON & C.OL.TD, London, the Antarctic with notes reading Amundsen 14.thDec.r1911 and Scott 18.thJan.y1912, as well as Little America (Byrd's base), Magnetic Pole (Shackleton) and others, the North Pole with a note reading Peary [6.thApril 1909], the continents with nation states shaded in yellow, green, pink and gray, and showing towns, cities, railway lines, rivers and the Great Wall of China (some minor parting of metal sections, some disolouration and rubbing), with cast meridian circle in a rectilinear polished aluminium Art Deco-style stand, with unpapered horizon and four rectangular-section legs with cross stretchers to meridian support -- 39in. (99.1cm.) high
