JOSLIN'S TEN INCH TERRESTRIAL GLOBE Manufactured by GILMAN JOSLIN, BOSTON [c.1885]
A 10-inch (25.4cm.) diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve hand-coloured printed gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the Meridian of Greenwich ungraduated, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the oceans with an analemma and showing lines for the northern and southern limits of wood, grain, the vine and bananas, Antarctica with no coastline apart from small portions for I. of Peter 1st I. of Alexander 1st and Land dicov.d by Capt. Wilkes of the U.S. Ship Vincennes , with a further note reading Cap.t Weddell R.N. reached this point 1823 , the continents with some nation states shaded in green and showing rivers, mountains, deserts, towns, cities and the Great Wall of China (general fading with some detail now hard to discern, some minor staining and minor old neatly repaired cracks), with printed hour dial at the North Pole and stamped brass meridian half circle, raised on an ebonised baluster turned column and plinth base -- 16½in. (41.9cm.) high
