The Manhattan floor lamp proposes a clear reference to contemporary American urban architecture, however the strict geometry and crisp rationalism of the design alludes also to the modernist aesthetic of the pre-war European design and architectural avant-garde. Vigo's work, primarily lighting, has frequently been associated creatively with artists such as Fontana, César and Vasarely.
