In an elaborate gilt-wood frame with a red wax seal and a typed label explaining the sitter and the attribution on the reverse.

Lot Essay

Hortense (1788-1837) was the daughter of the Empress Josephine by her first marriage, to the Comte de Beauharnais. She married Napoleon's brother, Louis Bonaparte, who became the King of Holland. Their son was Napoleon III of France.
