A simulated leather-covered microscope slide box,
containing four rare J.B. Dancer microphotographs comprising No. 22 (actually No. 14 in Dancer's 1873 list), the subject being J.B. Dancer and his six sons, the slide with additional manuscript labels relating to correspondence with C. Milligan, Dancer slide No. 33, being a photograph from life of J.B. Dancer F.R.A.S., the originator of microphotography, an unnumbered microphotograph slide with label inscribed in pencil Mother and Child, and additional manuscript label inscribed C. Milligan's letter of 30.8.82, with comment Could be rarest of all dots, another Dancer slide believed to show his children, three being in cadet uniform, the slide diamond-engraved J.B. Dancer (slide damaged, image not affected), and two Challenger sounding slides, one from the Sea of Japan, the other from the sea bed of the Atlantic; an unusual collection of twenty-two rectangular glass microscope slides, possibly for use with a solar microscope, the slides featuring insects, feathers and foliage, each bound with gilt and red embossed paper, and each specimen numbered (one slide cracked); and a microscopical preparations case containing various items including a Kreuztisch-Zentrierglas by Carl Zeiss, scale micrometers and other slide preparation material, the case -- 107/8in.
