A rare late 19th-Century compound monocular microscope,
signed on the circular platform stand J. Zentmayer Philadelphia, with rack and pinion focusing, fine-screw adjustment, double nose-piece, the shaped limb with the fine adjustment mechanism located on the stage, with glass panel and slide attachment, sub-stage wheel condenser and plano-concave mirror, the axis with truncated pillar and circular base, mounted on a fruitwood stand and contained in a mahogany carrying case -- 13½in. (34.3cm.) high

This rare Zentmayer of circa 1875 was apparently in limited production only and replaced by the 'American Histrological Microscope' which was patented in 1876.
