A fine early 20th-Century mahogany domestic medicine chest,
the double doors each with fitted green plush lined compartments for nine bottles with an assortment of medicinal powders and liquids, opening to reveal a top shelf with five larger bottles of varying designs, four smaller pill drawers with two sliding compartments in each, containing such items as a needle box and a torniquet strap by Savigny, three larger drawers beneath containing assorted medical accessories including a pestle and mortar, a cautery, small glass jars, bandages and a variety of pills, the rear of the chest with slide revealing the 'poison compartment' with five matching jars containing such substances as Flowers of Sulphur, and five larger assorted jars, the chest complete with a lacquered-brass drop handle (worn) and a set of keys -- 223/8in.
