engraving, 1526, a very fine Meder a impression, printing with great contrast and clarity, with the inky plate edges seen in the earliest impressions, watermark Crowned Coat of Arms with initial L and pendant b (M. wmk. 314), with thread margins, small made up repairs just inside each corner (approx. 3mm. diam.), presumably where previously mounted, the repair at lower left with an associated short repaired tear, a pinhole at the upper sheet edge, two pinholes towards the lower sheet edge, a horizontal fold mainly visible on the reverse, old paper tape at the left reverse sheet edge, an inscription in a contemporary hand on the reverse Corporis effigie[m] si quis non vidit Erasmi hanc scite ad vivu[m] picta tabella dabit. This refers to the famous medal of Erasmus by Quentin Massys which Erasmus offered to send Dürer as a basis for this print.
