This lot is a study for the figure which appears facing the opposite direction in the grand mural composition for the Rouen Museum 'Inter Artes et Naturam' painted by Puvis de Chavannes in 1889-90. We are grateful to Madame Louise d'Argencourt for confirming authenticity of this lot from a photograph.
