Lot Essay

This table cabinet corresponds extremely closely with a larger example sold in these Rooms on 19 May 1993, lot 187 (£25,000), as well as an example discussed in The Art of the Cabinet (M. Riccardi-Cubitt, London, 1992, p. 173, figs. 14-15). All three are inlaid with virtually identical views of architectural ruins, interspersed with distinctive sprigs of grass.
