Unsigned; possibly German, third quarter 17th Century
The front dial with silvered narrow Roman chapter ring with half hour markers, central gilt alarm disc, later hour hand, quarter dial below, the rear dials displaying the quarters and hours and with winding apertures engraved Biürtel - Gang - Stundt, the movement with squared section gilt-metal pillars secured with nuts to the top and base, chain fusee for the going train with end-caps to the brass barrel, verge escapement now with rear swinging pendulum, quarter striking on the smaller bell with hour strike and alarm on the larger bell housed within the balustraded tower, the detachable side panels engraved with latin text and flanked by gilt pilasters on pedestals, the moulded base on later gilt bun feet
