The case with gilt-metal repoussée double basket top with four foliate urn finials flanking the handle formed as two addorsed caryatides, the front door applied with gilt metal foliate-cast repoussée mounts, later pierced wood frets to the sides, the moulded base on hairy paw feet, the 67/8 in.sq. dial signed Jon. Knibb, Oxon on the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, with typical finely pierced and chamfered blued steel hands, the matted centre with wheatear-engraved calendar aperture, winged cherub spandrels, latches to the four dial feet and to the five substantial ringed pillars of the movement with single gut fusee, original? knife-edge verge escapement, pull quarter repeat on two original bells of different size, the backplate profusely engraved with scrolling foliage centred by a basket of flowers and signed Jon. Knibb, Oxon within an eagle-and-foliate cartouche flanked by engraved squirrels and framed within a wheatear-engraved border, the repeat pully mounted to the right side and later pendulum holdfast to the left side, the movement secured by means of a single bolt to the base pillar
