AN AUSTRIAN BURR BIRCH QUARTER STRIKING TABLE CLOCK WITH PULL QUARTER REPEAT AND ALARM

The case with foliate cast gilt-metal handle to the cushion-moulded top with foliate pierced and engraved sound frets, gilt-metal acorn finials to the out-set angles supported on slender twist columns with composite-carved capitals, the glazed sides inset with foliate pierced and engraved gilt-metal frets, similarily pierced and engraved gilt-metal escutcheons to the convex-moulded dial door, later escutcheon to the rear door, the ebonised moulded base on gilt-metal bun feet to the front and gilt-wood bun feet to the rear, the 6¾ in. sq. dial engraved Dirigo Et Dirigor (I direct and I am directed) within the gilt centre with central brass alarm disc and ringed calendar aperture, the brass Roman and Arabic chapter-ring with elaboratley pierced blued steel hands, foliate gilt-metal spandrels, the substantial three train movement with six ringed pillars, triple chain fusees, the going-train with pivoted verge escapement with fine foliate pierced and engraved gilt-metal back-cock and short pendulum with gilt-metal bob, the strike train with calibrated gilt-metal foliate engraved countwheel planted on the left side of the backplate and striking on the larger bell, the alarm train striking on the same bell, the quarter train with a subsidiary quarter countwheel engraved on the right side of the backplate with Arabic chapters and finely pierced blued steel hand, the quarters struck on the larger of the three repeat bells, the pull quarter repeat sounding on the three subsidiary bells for the quarters and the hour seperately on the larger of the three quarter bells, the backplate signed in script Christian Wagner, Bresslau
