Tony Gandarillas was a Chilean living in London and Paris in the middle years of the Twentieth century. He counted many artists amongst his friends including Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau.

In 1924, Cocteau stayed at the hotel 'Welcome' in Villefranche sur mer and it is likely that these drawings were made at that time. There the artist is said to have smoked opium following the death of Radiguet.

The authenticity of these works has kindly been confirmed by Madame Annie Guédras.
