FIRST EDITION, second issue binding with "Secret" on front cover buffed out and "Seven" stamped over it. PRESENTATION COPY TO HIS LITERARY AGENT, inscribed by the author on front free endpaper: "Signed for J B Pinker with love by Joseph Conrad." Pinker first met Conrad in 1899; he soon began acting as his literary agent (until his death in 1922), often in the earliest years helping Conrad with financial aid.
