Further details
This is the only example of this issue certified by PCGS as part of the S.S. Central America treasure. Perfect obverse die with extensively cracked reverse. This reverse die was about ready to fall apart with a bisecting horizontal crack through I of UNITED, leaves, and leg feathers, following the arrow shaft to point of the arrowhead and C to the rim. Other cracks extend upward and downward from this main crack, effectively bisecting the die vertically. A very fascinating coin from a technical viewpoint-a numismatist's delight.
