$5, 1857-S MS-62 (PCGS). High Normal Date, Large S. Pale yellow gold lustre with very slightly reflective fields. Very sharply struck and appealing.
The date is high with top of 1 much closer to bust than base is to border. A small rounded notch in the bust permits viewing of the entire top of the digit 1, which would otherwise have been covered-a very interesting die characteristic. Digit 7 is clearly separated from the bust. Large S mintmark on the reverse appears to be in the same position as above. [SSCA 6871].
