$10, 1853 EF-45 (PCGS). Rich medium yellow gold with coppery highlights. Lustre gives coin appearance of a higher grade. Despite its generous mintage, the 1853 is very scarce above EF grade and even specimens graded higher than this likely do not share its lovely eye appeal.

This is the only example of this issue certified by PCGS as part of the S.S. Central America treasure. 1 in date repunched north with serif clear about one-third the distance up the upright. Crack from left base of E in LIBERTY.
